Cooking 'r-Ice-Tea' for your hamster

In the series Cookin' 4 Lucy,
I cooked up this r-Ice-Tea recipe after my vet mentioned it is good stuff for hamsters.

You'll need:
  • Small pan
  • Cup (for measurements)
  • Some kind of timer
  • Stove
  • Plain rice (not the fast cookin' kind)
  • Water
Here are the steps involved:

Cookin' r-Ice Tea for my hamster Lucy.
Put half a cup of rice with two cups of water in a small pan.

I put some r-Ice-Tea in a smaller glass to cool down
for 10 - 15 minutes in the refrigirator

Unfortunately I don't have photo's of Lucy actually drinking this.
I cooked this on day 680, the day that Lucy passed away.

I am looking forward to cook this up once again, but then, for Lucy 3.0

Extreme HamsterTrackin' by SLD in Kansas, USA - part IV

Regular sender inner SLD sent in this wonderfull Extreme HamsterTrackin' report (a while ago),
here's the final part (number 4) ...

This Extreme HamsterTrackin' photo was taken by SLD in Kansas, United States of America. Lucy in Kansas City.
" Lucy's last stop before heading home to Mathijs was
in lovely Prairie Village, Kansas, [SLD's home town].
First, she stopped to admire the pioneer statue in one of the city's small parks:
" - SLD

This Extreme HamsterTrackin' photo was taken by SLD in Kansas, United States of America. Lucy in Kansas City.
" Next: Another city park that still shows the marks of the route of Santa Fe trail
that started about 100 miles east of Kansas City,
and ran almost 1,000 miles to Santa Fe. New Mexico.
" - SLD

The text in the photo reads:

" Over 100 years ago, the gentle grassy depression in front of you was
one of the most important highways in North America. Here, you'd
see wagon trains on the Sante Fe Trail winding through a rolling
landscape covered with this, waist-high prairie grasses.

Imagine thousands of trade wagons rumbling and creaking back and
forth between missouri and New Mexico. Wagons -- and the hooves
of the oxen and mules that pulled them -- wore this road into the
earth. By the 1940s, emigrants bound for the Oregon and California
Trails wore it even deeper.

Here, the prairie is gone. Wind and rain have smoothed the rough dirt
road into a gentle swale -- a subtle reminder of a once -- great highway.
"

This Extreme HamsterTrackin' photo was taken by SLD in Kansas, United States of America. Lucy in Kansas City.
" Lucy was really impressed by the old limestone fence posts used to mark the old trail route . . . " - SLD

" Dude, imagine that - - they didn't have many trees on the prairies
so they made fence posts out of rocks!!!!
(Imagine biting THAT!) " - Lucy

Day 680+20 current treadmill total: -.-- meters! (16:15 CET)

A lot of work behind the scenes has been done today (again)

Today, being a national holiday in the Netherlands,
I've been working really hard (5.5+ hours) on a website modification,
you'll hopefully not notice.

The main directory was overflowing with files, 928 logfiles where the main cause of this.
So I moved all logfiles to a sub-directory;
and it took quite some clever programming to get it all back to working again...
I hope this will speed up the download of all pages, the server can find it quicker now,
as opposed to searching for a file in 1200+ other files...

[ Although I am not really sure if this will be noticable,
it does contribute to a more organized website. ]

The 2-DO list is decreasing rapidly!
The sooner I can adopt Lucy3.0!

Previously unpublished Lucy(2.0) photographs:

This list is also getting smaller,
but I couldn't keep these nice pictures from you,

The list compiled on the newly hung whiteboard has been growing and growing...

The latest that HamsterTracker.com has got to do.
Workin' on them one step at a time!

In an attempt to reduce the website size,
I developed some software that cross-checks all pictures and html files.
As it seems HamsterTracker™ posted over 1583 photographs!!!

The software made a list of all photographs published
and checked all files if these pictures where being used.
As it seemed a few pictures where posted but never published.

Side project to get my mind OFF (and back ON)!

Here's what I've been doin' to get my mind off for a little while.

inserting two plugs, and screws,
then hangin' the whiteboard I recently obtained!

Let's check in on HamsterfanSite.com

I've been gettin' my daily fluff lately al the way from Puerto Rico.
There Jose is taking wonderfull care of his hamsters and hamster babies.

Because Lucy never had kids, Jose made Lucy their Godmother,
and gave us all a chance on seeing hamsters from being born to growing up.

Jose is takin' it to the max;
  • modifying hamster-treadmills,
  • designin' a new treadmill,
  • bloggin' about it all in a great way,
  • shooting some wonderfull hammie-pictures,
  • makin' a great video with home made music!
  • sharing the (sometimes hard-) time he has with his hamsters;

Here are two of my favorite shots (although very hard to pick; there all sooo gooood ;-)

The stuff HamsterTracker™ needs to do

Ever since Lucy's passing, I still want to greet Lucy when leaving and entering the house,
This is wat I've been looking at in my living room these last few days:
And it is not helping;

My hamster Lucy's cage after she passed.

A very strange thing occured when I wanted to make this photograph.
The lightbulb of the shown lamp had died also!

[
It took me a while to figure this out, flicking switches
and eventually removing the bulb and testing it with an Ohm-meter...
And ... YES ... technically confirmed (another) death of a light-bulb :-(
]

It's almost (like) saying; There's nothing more to see right now!

A bit creepy (in a nice way) isn't it?

Fortunately I had a spare!

This got me thinking on all the stuff I need to do:
(Making mental notes as I write this)

  • Buy new (spare) light-bulb or two,
  • Super-Clean all of Lucy's living quarters,
  • Update Lucy's statistical graphs,
  • Update Lucy's expenses,
  • Figure out a way to conserve webspace (I am runnin' out),
  • Fix the LCD on the HamsterTracker™ server (it has a loose contact somewhere),
  • Configure software for Lucy (3.0),
  • Then start thinking of adopting Lucy (3.0)...

I gotta start somewhere...

Lucy's last trick

Lucy has so her ways, even after passing...
Mainly because of Lucy's final appearance on CuteOverload.com,
HamsterTracker.com got a whoppin' 6280+hits (recorded by the most conservative counter),
together with another whopping wonderfull (heartbreaking) loving... (can't use enough kind superlatives here!) 260+ reactions

I'd never thought that Lucy touched soo many people!
Thank you ALL for all your messages and support!

All reactions (Lucy and) I received
inspired me to continue HamsterTracker™

I am not really sure on how long it will take me to adopt Lucy (3.0),
but I do know I want to continue the best hobby in the world!

HamsterTracker.com has still quite some Extreme HamsterTrackin' in the mailbox,
as well as some other goodies.
(Yes, please continue to send them in!)

I've found these unpublished photographs,
Which I discarded earlier, because they are a bit blurry.
(Shot three days before her passing).
