So every now and then I offered Lucy a nice treat:

New webcam lighting setup.



Bothered by the bad lighting of the webcams, I went out for a new lamp yesterday.
I found a nice one, that can be put in every position.

It does the job with style!

New webcam setup of Webcam no 7.


A few days ago, I mentioned that Webcam 7 is operational.
Unfortunately I never got the lighting right so I moved the webcam.

Then horror!



I noticed that the lighting had gone out.
So I changed the halogen-lightbulb.
Without success


Then I got out the Ohm-meter and started checking.
As a result the whole thing had to be opened to find the cause:

As it seems, the transformer has gone bad...


Not having a spare transformer (I looked in my spare parts box today)
I changed the lighting to one of the two bedside-lamps I have.


Although it looks great, it doesn't really light the camera's well.

(I suppose) I will try to get a new (halogen) lamp tomorrow.

HamsterTracker™ X-mas project: Webcam no. 7


I've been lookin' forward to get started on this little project, ever since I got Webcam no.7 on day 549 (see below).


Last week I installed the camera driver (unknown manufacturer), to test it a bit.
I also found a nice place to put the camera for it to record some nice Lucy shots:

The camera on the improvised-camera-stand (on the left) is the new one, camera no. 7.
The golf-ball camera on the right, is the IR-webcam (no. 2).

Well, it could use with some extra lighting,
because right now, even during daytime, the picture is black...


So this week I went out on a search, to find a possible solution.
Then I found this high-tech-baby; a Twilight-switch!
It supposingly switches on when it gets dark, all automatically.

Being on a HamsterTracker™-high-end budget, I had to ask the HamsterTracker.com financial department...


They agreed that spending the € 2.99 was a good investment!


HamsterTracker™ Webcam Sever



The webcam server software supported 'only' six camera's so this needed to be expanded to 7.
(While I was at it, I also added the support of an eigth webcam.)


This was unexpectingly and suprisingly easy to do;
yes this software is nicely designed and easily expanded!

(Brag, brag, brag... ;-))

Unfortunatly I haven't had a chance to catch Lucy is in her Meditation room with this webcam.


Because the lighting troubles me, I figured that the Twilight sensor wouldn't be enough:
Because then the light would be on all night.
When I first experimented with the webcam (with Lucy (1.0))
I noticed that Lucy (1.0) didn't use her tread mill as much when the light was left on
Therefore a timer should also be used;
